Pernalonga 80 Anos
Bugs Bunny 80 Years
Homage to the smartest, irreverent, bold and politically incorrect character in the history of animation! 80 years of breaking all social, moral and even logic rules, staying ahead of a certain mouse as the most beloved cartoon protagonist of all time. It’s not for any old man!
Cartoon icon, the sarcastic and clever rabbit first appeared on July 27, 1940, in the short ‘The Wild Hare’, directed by Tex Avery (1908 – 1980) and released in the matinees of American cinemas.
That was where the anthological phrase was first heard: “What’s up, old man?”
Since the debut, Bugs Bunny was different from Mickey (and anyone else) because he was ahead of time. It was the first of the drawings dedicated to children to be enjoyed by grown-ups without adults having to “awaken the child within themselves”. Some parents had more fun with him than their children.
Bugs Bunny is the first cheater to do well in pop culture. Bugs Bunny is tricky, deceptive, and always comes out on top when confronting other characters. He lies, he is arrogant, underhanded, he dresses as a woman, he pretends to be what he is not, he sets traps. And in the end, everyone likes him. And how not to like it?
To get an idea of the presence of Bugs Bunny – the character’s original name – in the popular imagination, he managed to beat none other than Mickey Mouse, Disney icon, as the most beloved of all time among the cartoon protagonists, in election held by the American magazine “TV Guide” in 2002, also leaving behind its contemporaries Gato Félix, Popeye and Tom & Jerry.
Taking first place was not hard to imagine. Unlike other characters from the golden decade of animation, Bugs Bunny remains more current than ever. In the 1940s, he perverted conventions by embodying all the genres you can imagine, even using skirt and lipstick in some designs.
